Rucka/Williams to leave Det. Comics early/start new Batwoman book in 2010

So this is a good news/bad news situation. According to Comic Book Resources, the very, VERY bad news is that Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III’s jaw droppingly epic and amazing run on Detective Comics is coming to a premature end–they had planned to stay with the book for 12 issues; instead, this last issue, #860 (of which I will have a review up in the next couple days, by the by), will be the final one.

Ouch. That hurt to type.

The GOOD news is that the fantastic pair are slated to start their own Batwoman-focused book in 2010. No word yet on whether it will be a miniseries or ongoing book (PLEASE ONGOING BOOK!!!), but yeah.

I’m super glad Kate Kane is getting her own book–she deserves it, and I’m glad the pair that introduced her to us so well are going to be handling it. She can’t stay in Detective Comics forever, after all–I’m assuming Bruce Wayne will take it back over as Batman after his big return. To loose Kate Kane, the best new character in ages (and one of the best comic book characters, ever, period, if you ask me) would just break my heart. Here’s hoping her book will be an ongoing series we can enjoy for years to come!

    • Haha, well the “fucking awesome” part was the new Batwoman book that Rucka and Williams are starting. That cannot be anything but awesome.

Them leaving Detective Comics, however, is most decidedly not. 😦
